7 Fashion Rules Every Guy Should Follow

Being tall has its advantages, you can date short women and tall women (hey now, double the options!).

But when it comes to your outfits, there are a few things you need to take into consideration, or you risk looking like a giraffe who stumbled through the discount aisle or a yard sale on the way to work. Style is innate, you either have it or you don’t so if you don’t, you can learn it because style is an everyday affair.

Here are the official rules every guy should follow.

1. Know that women can often be wrong in confirming your style decisions:

A man of style has to understand that he is ultimately alone in the vast sea of indecision that he must pay, women might be wrong in her choice of style for men but a man of style would understand that and might decide to go with it, maintaining the balance between his style and a woman’s view of a man style.

2.Your belt and shoes should match in colour, if not in material:

If your belt and shoe do not match in material, it should always match in colour, this is the easiest mistake even some people of style fall into so it is very important that your shoe and belt should match and if you have on a leather wristwatch, the colour must also match with your shoes and belt”.

3. Your tie length matters

Why you should avoid it: The length of your tie should always just grace the top of your belt buckle or waistband. If it’s shorter or longer than that, it’s going to throw off the whole look.

Do this instead: Buy a tie that hits you at the correct place, or simply adjust the one you have, if that works. It doesn’t matter if the front length of the tie is drastically longer than the back. You want the portions to compliment the length of your torso.

4. Avoid too many colours

Why you should avoid it: Mixing different colors breaks up your proportions, and that makes you look shorter and blockier.

Do this instead: You'll have a more fluid look from head to toe if you dress in all one color. Try pairing a gray T-shirt with gray jeans, or a black suit with black shoes for a lengthening effect.

5. Watches are the single most important accessory a man can own:

Invest in one good watch that suits your lifestyle and taste but if you are someone who likes to own more than one watch, wear the appropriate timepiece for your outfit.

6. Avoid long and loose shorts/knickers

Why you should avoid it: If you’re under 5'10", wearing long, baggy shorts should be avoided at all costs. It can make you legs appear truncated and throw off your proportions.

Do this instead: Go a little shorter in length and pick a boxier shape, which tends to look better on smaller builds.

7. Avoid baggy and/or saggy trousers/pants

Why you should avoid it: The biggest mistake some men make is wearing baggy trousers/pants, especially short men. Assuming you’re not filming a '90s rap video, if the fit is too loose and the waist is sagging, you’re not going to look good, period!

Do this instead: Wear your pants at your natural waist to create the appearance of longer legs. Also, look for a more streamlined leg (e.g. “straight” vs. "relaxed") and double-check your waist size. If all else fails, you guessed it: Take any of your ‘challenged’ trouser/pants to a great tailor for adjustments.
